NANCY LASAR – ARTIST STATEMENT

Whether in drawing, painting or printmaking, the process for me is about layering and energizing space in such a way that objects are fluid, interconnected and full of energy and movement. I try to use a variety of lines, marks and media to suggest both stasis and openness to possibility and transformation. As I attempt to describe the multiple realities which intermingle in memory, imagination and daily life, images emerge and diverge — reconfiguring in new relationships.

Critics have described Nancy Lasar’s work with such phrases as “drawing with light”, “condensed energy and flow”, “calm and crazy” and “organized chaos”.  “ Her latest work demonstrates an evolution, a transmutation, a metamorphosis of style, but not of message. Her art compels us to take a second look, to gaze more intently at the world we inhabit….Her varied works make manifest the depth and richness of her own musings.” Lasar herself states, “ we are tuning forks of emotion as we react to the world around us, vibrating at frequencies beyond logic, struggling to reflect, adjust and move forward in an increasingly complex and interconnected world.”

A native of New England, her work has been widely exhibited including group shows in New York, New Jersey, Japan, Sweden and China. She has had two solo exhibitions at The Mattatuck Museum, The Washington (Ct.) Art Association and at A.I.R. Gallery in Brooklyn as well as inclusion in numerous group exhibitions at The International Print Center, New York, VanDeb Editions, NY., The Bruce Museum, The Lyman Allen Museum, The DeCordova Museum, the Center for Contemporary Printmaking, SiteBrooklyn: The Yard at Bryant Park, NY, the New Britain Museum and The Lyman Allen Museum.  Her work is included in such collections as Aetna Life and Casualty, Pfizer Corp., the General Mills Corp., The Mattatuck Museum, The Center for Contemporary Printmaking, and The Karsdale Collection.

Nancy Lasar is represented by A.I.R Gallery, Brooklyn first as a NY Member and now as an Alumnae Member, Amy Simon Fine Art, Westport, Ct. and the Silvermine Guild of Artists Gallery, New Canaan, Ct  She has received two Individual Artist Fellowships from the former CT. Commission on the Arts as well as a grant to study at the Vermont Studio Center. Lasar lives and works in Washington Depot, Ct.
